About Our Animal Doctor Directory
Animal doctors are doctors that specialize in a variety of procedures for animals including: preventative medicine, nutrition and general health, and treatment of serious diseases and disorders. Animal doctors have a range of responsibilities that may include: administering vaccinations, prescribing medicine, creating a health nutrition plan and sometimes performing surgery on an injured or diseased animal. If the need arises, they may also deliver babies for pregnant animals. Animal doctors or veterinarians are required to have attended an accredited veterinary school and past national certified examinations. While many doctors are generalists meaning that they don't specialize in one particular type of animal and most often treat domestic cats and dogs, there are also specialists. Animal doctors can specialize in types of animals such as reptiles, exotic animals (gerbils, guinea pigs and parrots), birds or horses. The type of animal doctor you go to will depend largely on the type of animal you have. Each doctor has their own expertise and is able to speak specifically about the type of animal they most commonly treat. Regardless of the type of animal you have, if you haven't visited your local vet recently, make sure you get your pet checked up as soon as possible.
